Hope is perhaps the strongest emotion of all. When allied with love, it becomes almost unbreakable and unimaginably powerful. Whether worldly or spiritual, humans need to feel inspiration and connection in and with those around us. This program shines light onto love – romantic, spiritual, worldly or other, and the hope and trust we have in each other and in God. Central to the program are two wonderful contemporary works on love, Toby Hession’s She walks in beauty and Jake Runestad’s Let my love be heard. Thomas Tallis’ 40-part masterpiece, Spem in Alium, speaks to the highest form of hope and trust in God. Opening the concert, Sir John Tavener’s Song for Athene was sung at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. Meanwhile, Dale Trumbore offers us a cautionary tale that amidst the rush and business of everyday life, we all need to take time to pause, think, and love.
